You are cordially invited to attend the 2026 Anson Jones Lecture as we commemorate a milestone in one of the premier educational traditions of Texas Freemasonry.
For five decades, the Anson Jones Lecture has brought together brethren dedicated to preserving, advancing, and sharing the highest standards of Masonic scholarship. We hope you will join us as we celebrate this golden milestone and enjoy an evening of fellowship, learning, and inspiration.
We are honored to welcome Shawn Eyer as our featured speaker for this historic 50th Anson Jones Lecture.
Bro. Eyer is a writer on Masonic symbolism, history, ritual, and philosophy and holds advanced degrees from Hebrew College and Harvard University. He edited, with Christopher B. Murphy, Exploring Early Grand Lodge Freemasonry: Studies in Honor of the Tricentennial of the Establishment of the Grand Lodge of England. His current work is focused on the careful reading of early Masonic literature, with special attention to intertextuality, thematic progression, and ritualistic practice. He was named the 102nd Blue Friar in 2013 by then Grand Abbot, and Fellow of Texas Lodge of Research, S. Brent Morris. He is a Fellow of the Philalethes Society and the editor of its official publication, Philalethes: The Journal of Masonic Research & Letters, as well as the Managing Director of Communications and Education at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial.
His presentation, titled “Living Stones, Spiritual House: A Diachronic Study of Lithanthropomorphic Symbolism from Biblical and Patristic Sources to Eighteenth-Century Masonic Initiatory Praxis,” offers a thorough treatment of the rough and perfect ashlar symbolism and connects it to spiritual themes in western culture.
Note: Because of the presentation material, this is an exclusive event for Masons only.
