Masonic Research

Adding To Our Body Of Knowledge

For over fifty years, Texas Lodge of Research has been adding to the body of Masonic knowledge through research papers conducted by it members. This information is then published and distributed internationally to Masons and to Masonic Lodges and Libraries. Through quarterly meetings and regular publication, TLR inspires Masons of the Grand Lodge of Texas and other Grand Lodges all over the world to conduct research in the mysteries of Masonry and the history of our Craft, then submitting it for presentation. However, presenting a research paper is not a requirement of membership; many members join just to learn more about Masonry in general and the history of Texas Masonry in specific. Any Master Mason can become a member and our dues are only $35 per year. Click the Petition link for more information.

Encouraged To Write A Lodge History

I was asked to write a history of Empire Lodge as an extension of my
experience of writing a brief history of our lodge to present at the
dedication of the historical marker for our lodge. After the
presentation, I was encouraged by Right Worshipful Jerrel Jones, our
District Deputy Grand Master for Masonic District No. 9B (Eastern
Collin County) and a member of our lodge to do a more complete
history and present that paper to the Texas Lodge of Research. That
encouragement was supported by other members of the lodge and I
suppose it was a consensus appointment because so many members
were curious about various events in our history. I am currently
reviewing the minutes of the lodge (interesting task since our charter
was granted in 1884) and have conducted several interviews with
individuals who know certain phases of the history. I have
interviewed two great-great grandchildren of charter members of the
lodge.
